Grantee Spotlight: Syntero’s “Backing Our Frontline” Supports First Responders and Frontline Workers During COVID-19 Pandemic

Sep 15, 2020 | Health and Human Services

“We’ve been talking a lot about ‘we’re in the same storm’, but we’re not in the same boat.” – Julie Erwin Rinaldi, M.Ed., Syntero CEO

The History and Mission of Syntero

Syntero was formed in 2013 through the merger of Northwest Counseling Services and Dublin Counseling Center to advocate and support the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Recognizing the growing need for services and support in the community, Syntero expanded in 2017 to include facilities in Dublin, as well as Hilliard, Lewis Center, and Northeast Columbus.

Offering a comprehensive range of behavioral health care services to meet the needs of individuals and families, Syntero’s goal is to create a welcoming, comfortable, and safe environment for those in need. In addition to providing treatment, Syntero also is focused on prevention and supportive services that result in positive, life changing outcomes.

Syntero has become such an important part of the fabric of the Dublin community, that there was no doubt that they would play an integral role in supporting the community during the global pandemic…and the Dublin Community Foundation was happy to provide the necessary financial support.

“Backing Our Frontline”

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted first responders and frontline workers in unprecedented ways. Research shows that a significant number of frontline workers are experiencing increased symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia, and distress.

Syntero is working to support those who may be experiencing an increase in stress during this time, recognizing that these first responders and frontline workers are an essential component to the community’s defense to COVID-19. As such, they have instituted their “Backing Our Frontline” program to do just that.

The Dublin Community Foundation provided a grant to Syntero in early 2020 that has enabled them to offer 4-6 confidential, virtual counseling sessions free of charge for all first responders and frontline workers working or living in Dublin.

Syntero’s goal is to assist in verbalizing and processing the impact this work is having on first responders and frontline workers as well as identify and help to develop coping strategies and self-care techniques to manage the stressors they may be experiencing.

At the Dublin Community Foundation, our mission is to support local non-profit organizations by raising, investing, and dispersing funds for the enrichment of the entire Dublin community. We take immense pride in seeing the organizations that we support go on to meet the growing needs of our community. These are challenging and uncertain times, but Dublin nonprofit organizations like Syntero are certainly rising to the occasion.
